Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our approach, treatment model and services.

What is your Model of Care?

I value collaborative care and clear communication with referring practitioners.

We require an emailed referral letter with as much information as possible from your referring doctor.

Our approach: Read the file. Take a history. Careful assessment. Treatment planning.

With informed consent, methods are used where they appear clinically appropriate, with attention to safety, clarity and respect for each person's experience.

Treatment is evidence-based or evidence-informed.

It is intended to integrate with—not replace—ongoing psychological therapy and medical care. We welcome referrals where the referring clinician intends to continue working with the patient.

This is a private practice based in Melbourne and does not provide emergency or crisis services.

Please feel free to contact me if you'd like further information.

Is your work evidence-based?

Where strong evidence exists, it is used.

Where it doesn't, approaches are applied carefully, transparently and as adjuncts—not replacements—for Western scientific medicine.

Is this psychiatry, therapy, or something else?

I provide one-off psychiatric assessments and medicolegal work.

My psychiatric speciality (Consultation Liaison Psychiatry) is at the interface between Western physical medicine, neurology and psychiatry.

My approach includes psychiatry while also integrating psychotherapy approaches and selected body-based approaches where appropriate, tailored to the individual.

Do I have to believe in the "energy" side of things?

No. These approaches are experiential, not belief-based.

We work with what is useful and appropriate for you.

There is no pressure to believe anything or go further than you are comfortable with.

Overall the experience should feel supportive and helpful.

Will this replace my current therapist?

No. This is designed to integrate with ongoing care.

We encourage you to continue receiving standard care from your existing practitioners such as medical doctors, prescribing psychiatrists, psychologists and psychotherapists.

This work is "as well as" rather than "instead of".

It is integrative and complementary.

Is this right for me?

That's exactly what the initial consultation is for.

You don't need to figure everything out before reaching out.

An initial consultation can clarify:

  • What’s actually going on
  • Whether this approach is a good fit
  • What direction makes the most sense

The techniques used depend on the individual person.

More integrative and resourcing therapies include Deep Brain Reorienting and Traumatic Incident Reduction.

Important Note:
In general, shamanistic approaches are less suitable for people who have experienced psychosis or have a very fragile sense of self, such as those with severe unresolved traumatic experiences.
